A team of year 12 pupils from Callington Community College who won a trip to London by coming top in a virtual stocks and shares competition, have enjoyed whistle-stop tour of the capital.
The AS level students returned a staggering 58.24 percent to beat 19 other teams from schools across Cornwall in the third annual Worldwide Financial Planning and Cornwall Learning Education Business Partnership Virtual Trading Challenge.
And as well picking up £300 in prize money the group of 16 and 17 year olds enjoyed a return flight to London City Airport with Air South West and a visit to the Bank of England, all courtesy of independent financial advisers, Worldwide.
James Payne from Callington's winning team said: "The competition was great, especially winning it, but to get to fly to London and visit the Bank of England was fantastic.”
As well as the Bank of England, the group visited Buckingham Palace, Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, and the London Eye.
Teacher, Mark Rumson, who accompanied them on the trip, said: “They had a great day with one never having visited London, and another not having flown before.
“It was all very exciting and exhausting for me!”
The pupils still have one prize left to enjoy, a trip on Worldwide’s RIB during the summer.
Worldwide’s managing director, Peter McGahan, said: “I’m really pleased that the team enjoyed the flight with Air South West and had a great time in London.
“Since the Virtual Trading Challenge was launched in 2007 we’ve had some fantastic results, but Callington truly deserved the title this year.”
Mike Coombes, Commercial Director at Air Southwest, said: "Air Southwest are once again delighted to have been able to support Worldwide Financial Planning's schools competition, and it was a pleasure to welcome pupils and teachers from winners Callington School on board for a return flight to London City.
“Air Southwest's links to London make it really easy for schools and groups to visit our capital city for an exciting and educational trip, as they are able to fly there and back in a day. By the sounds of it both staff and pupils had a great day out, and we will look forward to supporting the competition again next year."
