Renowned for the quality of its graduate training and development programme, TRAC Services has gone a step further, lending its support to the entrepreneurial talents of youngsters across Cornwall.
TRAC was one of the key sponsors of the Young Enterprise Cornwall Innovation Awards 2010, aimed at giving youngsters the opportunity to develop a greater understanding of how businesses operate by setting them the challenge of creating and running their own enterprise.
Business ventures included everything from salad surfer food tongues, to recycled denim bags and personalised key rings and TRAC Company Director Sarah Trethowan was invited to present one of the awards at the recent finals.
Looking for a winning team to go through to the South West Finals, over 100 of Cornwall’s leading business people gathered to hear presentations from the teams taking part before the judging panel selected the final winner.
According to Sarah, the 8-month project, which saw pupils consider, develop, launch and run their own business, was a testament to just how much talent there is in Cornwall.
“This was a fantastic project to be involved in and we were delighted to be a sponsor. Over the 8 months we were able to see the youngsters taking part really start to understand the processes involved in running a business, the importance of planning, strategy, teamwork and communication and the strides they took in that time, as well as the enjoyment they took from the whole project.
“As a business we have really benefited from developing young talent through a committed approach to training and it was really pleasing for us to be able to lend our support to a project offering invaluable experience to the next budding generation of graduates and business people,” said Sarah.
Emma Wright, Development Manager for Young Enterprise Cornwall said the involvement of the sponsors and business mentors was critical for the success of the event.
“Without the support of our sponsors, such as TRAC Services we would not be able to give youngsters in Cornwall the opportunity to benefit from this unique project. The 2010 Cornish Innovation Awards have been such a resounding success, and we hope to be able to get more businesses involved in the next one,” said Emma.
Young Enterprise is the UK’s leading enterprise education charity. Together, they are building a connected world of young people, business volunteers and educators, inspiring each other to succeed through enterprise.
