Surf and Spiezia at St Ives Sail Lofts Ocean Spa

The UK’s burgeoning surf scene appeals to the young and more mature alike, but if your muscles need a bit of easing after braving the Cornish waves – the exclusive Sail Lofts Ocean Spa in St Ives has just the answer.

The organic Spa, which launches on the historic harbour-front on Saturday June 19, will be offering an array of organic spa treatments created by award-winning Cornish skincare brand Spiezia including 25 and 60 minute warm-up or cool-down massage sessions specifically designed for surfers of all ages and standards.

The Sail Lofts Ocean Spa is the logical addition to the coolest holiday apartments in town, The Sail Lofts, developed on the site of an old pilchard-pressing yard next to Porthmeor Beach. After opening two years ago the Sail Lofts are now widely recognised as amongst the best holiday rental accommodation in Cornwall, comprising twelve spectacular houses and apartments, clustered around a sub-tropical courtyard garden area.

“Many of our visitors are keen surfers or they want to learn – we even have a wet room at the Sail Lofts for boards and wetsuits,” explains Sail Lofts owner Philip Griffiths. “So along with all the usual spa treatments that people might wish for, we wanted to offer surfers a way to wind up to or cool down from all that physical exertion!”

When Philip found himself sitting next to Spiezia’s Amanda Barlow at a Cornwall Chamber of Commerce breakfast they quickly realised they had much in common – not least a stated mission of putting the well-being of the customer and the environment equal-first.

“Like the Sail Lofts, we wanted our Spa to be as sustainable and ethical as possible – as well as being just as luxurious,” says Philip. “So it seems absolutely right that we’re collaborating with Spiezia Organics, whose products are made at Gear Farm just over twenty miles away on the Lizard Peninsula, but who, like us, have fans all over the world.”

“It’s a wonderful opportunity to work with a like-minded Cornish based brand,” adds Amanda, whose outlets for Spiezia Organics include Harvey Nichols stores throughout the UK, as well as being distributed globally.

Spiezia Organics was the first company in the UK to gain 100% organic certification by the Soil Association across its entire skincare range and it is the original 100% organic skincare brand in Cornwall. Spiezia products and the treatment range were initially launched 10 years ago at the award-winning Budock Vean Hotel on Cornwall’s Helford River, which Amanda runs with her husband Martin.

“We’ve devised a really interesting and innovative range of treatments for the Sail Lofts Ocean Spa fusing Eastern and Western massage,” says Amanda, “In addition we will be launching a unique signature treatment - the Ocean Spa Sensation which will be exclusive to Sail Lofts Ocean Spa.

“These wonderful facilities are just as much for the people of St Ives and Cornwall as for the visitors lucky enough to find themselves staying in this beautiful part of the world – so we hope to offer a little something for everyone.”

The Sail Lofts are Corporate Members of Tate St Ives, which allows guests a 50% discount on entry tickets to the Tate and Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden and a further 10% discount in the Tate shop and Café.

Spiezia products are hand-made in Cornwall and are 100% Organic – certified by the Soil Association. More product and background information at www.spieziaorganics.com.

Spiezia Organics treatments at the Sail Lofts Ocean Spa start from £25 for the Surfers’ deep tissue massage.

Spiezia launched the Made For Life campaign in 2009 supporting people with cancer, backed by Macmillan Cancer Support and The Mermaid Centre.
