WHAT'S NEWS IN CORNWALL

Blast off the New Year with new skills and boost your business

Starting in January; an opportunity not to be missed to blast off your business through performance boosting short courses, delivered by industry professionals at Cornwall College Business. Courses include: Marketing, Management, Finance, Employment Law, E-Marketing, Web Design, Conferences & events and Project Management. These short sharp courses have proved they can boost your business by saving you money, increasing efficiency and developing new skills. Many local businesses have achieved great results through this higher level skills training. Gordon Leer, Business Development Director for KCS Trade Print Limited, a local manufacturer of specialist high quality integrated card and label products and continuous business forms, based in Launceston, undertook the “Finance for non-financial managers” course. He said: “This course has been great in helping me to interpret and understand the financial reports we use. The subject matter was relevant and having not studied for a long time I found the structure very good too. The current climate is tough therefore investment and budget decisions need to be founded upon good information. I feel this course is extremely valuable to business managers and owners in terms of the understanding it creates.” Sarah Goodwin is a Personal Assistant with human resources responsibility at YMCA Cornwall which, as well as providing hostels for backpackers, also offers help with housing issues for disadvantaged young people between the ages of 16 to 25 years. Sarah undertook the “Understanding employment and contract law for business” and said: “I have found this course invaluable. Be prepared for hard work but the reward is vital accurate knowledge.” Andrew Stone, Art & Creative Director from Oracle Design, a young, dynamic digital design agency specialising in branding, logo design, design for print, packaging, website design, interior and retail design based in Newquay, undertook the “Web design and authoring” course. Andrew said: “I really enjoyed the course and learnt a lot enabling me to go away and use my new skills immediately. The course was very beneficial for me and my business and it enabled me to have a website that I have wanted for years, but didn't know how.” Karen George is Marketing Coordinator at the Green Lawns Hotel, a privately owned hotel built in 1910 located in Falmouth and situated in award winning sub-tropical gardens. Karen undertook the “Effective marketing” course and said: “An interesting and informative course confirming the importance of research and aggressive marketing enabling me to increase sales through a well developed marketing plan.” The cost of courses is always a consideration, but with investment from the ESF (European Social Fund) Convergence Programme and the Learning and Skills Council, Cornwall College Business (CCB) is able to offer these performance boosting degree level short courses, validated by the University of Plymouth, at a subsidised rate. Dave Linnell OBE, Principal of Cornwall College, said: “These performance boosting short courses offer local businesses higher level training at affordable prices in short sharp sessions that fit around work commitments.” For further information and course dates starting in the New Year, call Cornwall College Business on 0800 731 7594, email enquiries@ccb.cornwall.ac.uk or visit their web site at www.ccb.cornwall.ac.uk
