Players are being sought to take part in the third annual Worldwide Financial Planning Business Services Golf League.
30 members of the Cornish business community took part in 2009 with Lloyds TSB business development manager, Phil Wilkes, being crowned champion.
The final, which took place at Perranporth Golf Club, saw Phil narrowly beat the 2008 champion, Andrew Prouse from St Austell-based accountants Philips Frith on the last hole.
“There’s a lot of excitement in the business community about the start of this year’s golf league,” said event organiser and independent financial adviser at Worldwide, Matt Higham.
“I know Andrew is keen to try and win back the title, while Phil has been out practicing as much as possible.
“Since the competition launched in 2008 we’ve seen an increase in competitors each year and I’m hopeful that we can attract even more players from Cornish businesses to take part this year.”
Beginning with a group stage in March the competition progresses to knock out rounds in July and will run until September and take in most of the county’s courses.
“The league is a great way of business people getting to know and understand each other better and how we can work together more effectively, especially as the country comes out of recession,” said Matt.
Peter McGahan, Worldwide’s managing director, said: “It’s great seeing the enthusiasm Cornish companies offer for friendly competitions like this.
“I hope firms encourage more of their staff to take part this year, because there is not only the health benefits to consider, but also the potential for networking that is on offer.”
Entries for this year’s league are now being accepted. For further information please email Matt Higham at Worldwide Financial Planning on mhigham@wwfp.net or call on 01872 222422.
