WHAT'S NEWS IN CORNWALL

Cornwall Business Week line up confirmed

For one week in May the focus will be on the importance of Cornwall as a place to business.

Led by Cornwall Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the Cornwall Development Company, Cornwall Business Week offers an opportunity to celebrate and explore business in Cornwall.

From the 15th to the 22nd May a series of events will highlight the importance of private business, whilst offering advice and support to help them grow.

The Cornwall Business Awards will feature on Thursday 20th, where Karren Brady will be the keynote speaker.  Recently appointed vice chairman at West Ham United FC and unveiled as Margaret Mountford’s successor advising Alan Sugar in The Apprentice, Karren has been named by Cosmopolitan among its “100 most powerful women in the world”.

Cornwall Business Fair is on Wednesday 19th with over 40 businesses exhibiting on Lemon Quay in Truro and offering advice and guidance through a free seminar programme that includes sessions on design, legal advice, finances, training and marketing.

Throughout the week you will also see Redruth Going Global, Outdoor Art in Penzance, debates on the future of St Austell’s town centre, a Newquay Discovery Day, a Hog Roast in Camborne and business mapping in Falmouth.

Richard Glover, Chief Executive of the Cornwall Chamber, feels that this is an opportune time to consider the needs and importance of the business community: “Whatever happens in the General Election, whichever party succeeds, one thing is certain: the business environment in the UK is about to change dramatically. Cornwall is very reliant on the public sector and any cuts to budgets could have a serious impact. How will the private sector respond? What does the private sector need to thrive? These questions are important to us all”.
