  • Cornwall Chamber Regional Hubs to make G7 an event for all.

Cornwall Chamber of Commerce is working with business leaders and enterprises across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to make the G7 Summit taking place at Carbis Bay from June 11th – 13th a focus of debate for everyone. From Scilly up to Bude the Chamber’s G7 Regional Hubs are reaching out and creating their own events, (all in accordance with the latest covid rules), providing venues to watch and debate activity beamed direct from the Summit while the global spotlight shines on Cornwall.

G7 delegations of the UK, US, Germany, France, Canada, Italy and Japan will descend on Cornwall along with leaders from Australia, India, South Korea and the EU attending as guests.

It is estimated that the 2021 G7 Summit will generate £50m in revenue for Cornwall and represents a once in a lifetime opportunity to showcase the Duchy’s developing green & blue economy – seen as key to creating quality careers and prosperity for future generations.

The Chamber’s Regional Hubs will consider G7 themes including climate change, sustainability, "levelling up" of society, health, nature and young people as well as debating the question "What investment would be the most useful and have the greatest impact on our particular part of Cornwall?”

These talking points will be discussed across Cornwall as the Hubs link up with Chamber CEO Kim Conchie for an hour’s “roadshow” each day – with professional audio and visual zoom broadcast provided by The Cornwall Channel - from the official G7 business & investment focussed “Cornwall House” in Falmouth.

“The G7 should be an inclusive event which gets everyone engaged in its themes and ideas for improving communities and the planet,” says Kim. “It isn’t a closed, three day gathering of world leaders with no wider impact beyond the Summit walls. Indeed its themes chime well with Cornwall’s ambitions which is one of the reasons the PM selected the Duchy as the venue for the Conference. Our Regional Hubs are just one way of widening the debates so there’s a real interest in the Summit themes and ongoing legacy from this event.”

In the north of the Duchy, Cornwall’s ancient capital of Launceston is creating a whole series of events on a medieval theme over the G7 weekend - alongside its business-focussed forum.

Ellie Mason of Launceston Life says, “Like our colleagues across Cornwall our whole town feels honoured to be one of the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce Regional Hubs during the G7 Summit, and we are thrilled to have been given the opportunity to bring the community together to organise what we hope will be an enjoyable and useful three days!"

The G7 Cornwall Regional Hubs are in the planning stages for Land’s End Airport, Redruth, Newquay, Bodmin, Launceston, Bude  – linking to Chamber CEO Kim Conchie in Falmouth.
