We are the first centre of resource for all in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly who are affected by sight loss, whatever their age, circumstance or condition. Our dedicated and professional team is ready to help everyone living with sight loss, whether recent or longstanding, sudden or gradual, for the person directly concerned and for family members, friends and colleagues who are affected by these changes too.Established in 1856, the charity supported Cornish miners many of whom lost their sight due to mining accidents and the hazardous working conditions of the time. 160 years on and we continue to support the visually impaired, helping over 4,000 people a year from our headquarters in Truro. Today it is estimated there are over 20,000 visually impaired people living in Cornwall. We aim to reach these people and support them to lead active, independent and involved lives. We are proud of our heritage as the longest standing, and earliest, charity for those with impaired vision and loss of sight in Cornwall, and we look forward to developing our support for the generations to come.
