Hat trick for The Headland - the only hotel in Cornwall to make prestigious award shortlist
The Headland Hotel in Newquay has been shortlisted in the Front of House Team of the Year category in The Caterer’s Hotel Cateys 2017 awards – the third successive year that the hotel has made a category shortlist and the only business in Cornwall to be featured.
First launched in 2007, the Hotel Cateys celebrate the most successful hotels, hoteliers and hotel employees across the UK. Last week, nearly 90 judges, selected for their expertise and industry knowledge, met at London’s Dorchester Hotel for two days of vigorous debate and discussion to choose shortlists from 250 applications.
“This is the third year in a row that we’ve been shortlisted in one of the categories - an incredible achievement as we’re the only hotel in Cornwall to have been nominated during that time,” said General Manager Darryl Reburn. “I’m delighted that our front of house staff have got this very prestigious recognition as every one of them understands how important it is to offer an exceptional service and continually exceed expectations.
“One of our guests, for example, came to visit during the final stages of her battle with terminal cancer. She had always wanted to fly a plane so our Head Concierge, Sarah Gaskin, organised a special trip for her from Newquay Airport. She also helped her overcome some of the physical challenges her condition presented whilst she was with us – making her stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
“That dedication and genuine desire to ensure the highest levels of customer experience isn’t at all unusual for our team and they thoroughly deserve this accolade.”
The Hotel Catey winners will be announced at a glittering event to be held at London’s Park Plaza Westminster Bridge hotel on 24 November.
