On May 16th at 12.45pm we are gathering to build on an inspirational launch for Homes for Cornwall at the Hall for Cornwall in Truro and as a valued member of our community, we would appreciate your attendance so you can be a vital part of the county wide conversation.
Our most senior elected councillors, planners and community leaders are also attending and would appreciate hearing your views as part of the day and during the networking afterwards.
Cornwall is facing an unprecedented shortage of properly affordable housing. This is a huge issue, impacting not just the most vulnerable in our community but forcing many families from their homes, impacting on the delivery of essential services and on the education of many young people. The post Covid recovery of our core industries is being hampered by a shortage of staff in large part due to issues around their accommodation.
Inward investment opportunities are being lost or deferred by the inability to house key staff. This housing crisis is causing real damage to individuals, families, our economy and most importantly our communities.
A bunch of passionate leaders from across many sectors (Council, landowners, farmers, local charities, Cornish businesses, community & educational organisations) have come together to find solutions and we hope to be joined by many more who see an opportunity to make a difference. We see the size of the problem, but also the prize for our County.
Join us for:
• Inspiration - Imagine what Cornwall could become if we got this right and the unique character of the Cornwall we care about, could fully develop?
• Insight - What changes will make the difference? What do we need to do? Who do we need to involve?
• Information - What topics we really need to get a better handle on? How does our housing system actually work? How can we help our communities flourish?
• Motivation - Moving from concern to action
It’s not only about fixing something ‘out there’. We all have a part in creating and therefore solving the problem. This is the opportunity to make a change.
Change naturally comes with a cost but that cost is an investment in creating flourishing communities across the whole of Cornwall.
Let’s be brave and bold together!
Everyone will have a chance to ask questions of our housing and planning experts. The day should be really inspirational as well as a wise investment of all of our time.
The conference will be run strictly under Chatham House rules to enable full honesty.
The 16th May will start at 12.45pm and finish at around 4.30pm with an open networking forum for you to be a key part of the discussion of key topics & housing solutions for Cornwall.
We are very much hoping you can join and add your energy to this movement.
