Centrica and Cornwall are leading the way in a new energy future, creating the UK’s first local energy market that will see commercial and residential participants working together to take control of how they use, generate and store energy. We aim to give 150 homes and businesses the power to generate, store, buy and sell energy to each other and the national grid
Centrica believes this exciting project will provide major findings that can inform the Government, National Grid and regulators about how the UK can best develop new and effective markets for flexible energy. This will also be of enormous interest to international governments and regulators
The Cornwall LEM is at the forefront of global energy innovation and supported by a partnership between Centrica, Western Power Distribution, National Grid, and the University of Exeter
The trial will allow us to test how energy storage and onsite generation can be combined with smart technologies to reduce pressure on the UK’s electricity grid and unlock further renewable development.
