• BCC comments on launch of the Budget process

Commenting on the Government announcement that the Budget will take place on Wednesday
11 March 2020, Co-Executive Director Claire Walker said:

“Businesses will be looking to the Budget to boost confidence and stimulate growth at a time of
significant uncertainty for the UK economy.

“Firms of all sizes need to see a package of fiscal measures to alleviate the burden of high up-front
costs and boost investment. The Chancellor must outline how he will make good on election
promises of a fundamental reform of Business Rates and we also need to see a moratorium on all
new up-front costs for businesses for the duration of this Parliament.

"This is the first opportunity for the new government to demonstrate that it listens to business and is
serious about tackling the day-to-day challenges holding firms back.”

Kim Conchie, CEO of Cornwall Chamber of Commerce adds: In addition,  the British Chambers of Commerce South West want to see the Prime Minister come good on his promise to support the regions. The South West Peninsula remains poorly served by transport infrastructure, digital connectivity and skills development. We will be surveying businesses throughout the South West in the next few weeks to gather info on what their priorities are and will then be adding the business voice to political calls for a large share of the Shared Prosperity Fund to address the shortfalls in the region.
